Memphis Rally to Stop New TennCare Cuts
REAL PEOPLE. REAL VOICES.
Disability community and local advocacy organizations unite to stop the state from forcing people into nursing homes.
The Tennessee Health Care Campaign, the Memphis Center for Independent Living, ADAPT of Tennessee, Mid-South Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the ARC of the Mid-South are holding a joint press conference and rally to speak out against recent TennCare cuts to Private Duty Nursing and Home Health services.
Tennesseans with disabilities, their families, and their friends don’t like the idea of people being forced into nursing homes, though the state claims that there is no other choice—we disagree. It’s unfair and unwise for the state to give patients and families only 10 to 30 days’ notice to seek alternative care for situations that require complex, specialized care. We want to put a halt to the cuts. People need more time; we need to have more options for care and a better plan for this transition. We believe people have the right to receive care at home rather than be forced into nursing homes against their will.
